About Morbi

Before 10 years it was considered as a remote place of Gujarat with limited resources. Today, Morbi caters to the 8% of the world’s ceramic requirement. Major products of Morbi are wall tiles, floor tiles, polished porcelain tiles, sanitaryware and mosaic tiles.

Morbi is located 247 Km from Ahmedabad. On the outskirts of Morbi, 8/A National Highway is flanked by ceramic factories and this cluster is spread upto Wankaner city. A large number of small-scale Ceramic manufacturing units are also located around Thangadh. Wankaner, Thangadh and Morbi form the Ceramic triangle.

The manufacturing companies in Morbi also cater to export market (Middle East, African Countries, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc.). In the recent years Morbi has also became an important manufacturing outsourcing zone. Many leading ceramic companies like HR Johnson, Asian tiles and Somani Tiles are outsourcing their requirements from Morbi.

This zone of Gujarat is considered to be an industry worth 40,000 million rupees annually. In end of 2009, around 40 to 50 new ceramic factories will be added in this ceramic cluster.

The quality of the Morbi’s ceramic products is becoming comparable to that of international standards. Some of these products are also qualifying stringent European norms. This ceramic cluster is categorized as unorganized sector with many of the family owned companies. But it is surely a good place to source the requirements of ceramics. Morbi’s products are considered as medium range products.

The region around Morbi (i.e. Vankaner, Dhuva, and Thangadh) is a virtually untapped ceramics hotspot. It is India’s newest and most promising ceramics production hub with scores of innovative and enthusiastic tile and sanitaryware manufacturers, all of which represent key future sales targets for equipment, raw materials and service suppliers. The pace of production growth in this region has been explosive and this trend is set to continue for the foreseeable future.

The vicinity of this city with major ports (e.g. Kandla, Mundra and Pipavav) also lowers down the transportation costs. The region will surely be one of Asia’s key driving forces over the next 10 years.
